He had served as rabbi in Frankfurt am Main from 1910 as well as rabbi for the German army during the First World War where he was awarded an Iron Cross at Verdun. Salzberger also presided the B'nai B'rith Frankfurt Lodge from 1928. After being imprisoned in Dachau concentration camp at the November Pogrom he emigrated to London in 1939 and became rabbi at the new Liberal Jewish Synagogue (later Belsize Park Synagogue), 1939-1956.

Scope and Content

Beside the exchange of personal information, mainly on occasions of Salzberger’s birthdays, the correspondence deals with a third party report about an anti-Semitic incident in Frankfurt am Main, Jewish-Christian relations, and an enquiry by the Library to support its eyewitness testimony project. Contained are to prints from the journal Aufbau.
