Biographical History
Hanns Günther Reissner (1902-1977) was a Jewish-German historian. He had emigrated to India in 1939 and later to the United States.
Scope and Content
Comprising handwritten and typewritten letters the correspondence deals with various historical and current subjects Reissner was working on including among others: the history of Jews in Ceylon during the Middle Ages; the US-American presidential election 1952; Jewish-German philanthropist Wilfried Israel; Reissner’s involvement in a compendium on Jewry compiled and edited in West Germany. Further former members of the Centralverein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens, other common acquaintances, and aspects of the history of German Jewry are discussed. Contained are copies of several papers by Reissner and a transcript of a speech given by him.
