Biographical History

Michael Schmutzer, a cousin of the donor, inherited the diaries of his maternal grandfather Rudolf Rosenbaum. Rudolf Rosenbaum lived in Vienna before World War Two where he ran the family printing and publishing business, Druckerei Brüder Rosenbaum.

Michael Schmutzer's older sister was born in Egypt, and his father volunteered to join the British army in the map making division ending the war as a Major.

The diaries and his notes are in German but have recently been translated into English by Michael's Austrian wife, Marina, who is the daughter of Holocaust survivors, for the benefit of their three sons who were born and have been brought up in the US. The book which is c.A4 in size is 178 pages long and is illustrated with black and white as well as colour photos.
