Biographical History

Lothar Nelken (1909-1984) was born in Schwetz, Germany, and studied law in Breslau and Heidelberg universities. He was appointed judge before being stripped of his position when the Nazis came to power. He came to Great Britain in July 1939 and was resident at the Kitchener camp for refugees in Kent, where he commenced his diaries.
