Biographical History

Herbert Malinow (b. 1920) was born in Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland) to Adolph and Erna Malinow, Jewish refugees. Herbert came to Great Britain in 1936. Adolph, Erna and Ernst followed in 1939. Herbert was subsequently interned in June 1940 and sent to Australia on the infamous HMS Dunera. He remained in internment camp in Australia until his return in August 1941. Thereafter he joined the Pioneer Corp of the British army.

This collection comprises material which documents the period when Herbert Malinow was interned as an enemy alien and subsequently transported on the infamous ship, HMS Dunera to Australia. It includes diaries, correspondence and press cuttings
