Biographical History
The book is the true account of a libel case brought in 1964 in London by Dr Wladislaw Alexander Dering, former prisoner-doctor in Auschwitz against Leon Uris, author of Exodus, and the publishers of that book, for alleged defamation of character, specifically in Uris' statement that Dering had performed 17,000 'experiments' in surgery without anaesthetic.
The jury found for the plaintiff but only awarded him the smallest coin in the realm and awarded costs to the defendants.
