Biographical History

The District Governor's Office, later the District Office, in Vsetín was established as the first instance of political administration in 1909. The office kept population records, dealt with the association approval and supervision agenda, and issued trade concessions. The office was headed by the district governor. In 1945, the District National Committee was established and the District Office therefore ceased to exist.

Archival History

After 1945, the registry of the District Office was kept in the building of the District National Committee. In 1962 it was taken over by the District Archives in Vsetín. The census records from 1869, 1890, 1900 of the judicial district of Vsetín were added to the fonds. The fonds has been preserved in relatively good condition. Part of the fonds from the period of the Nazi occupation has been preserved with the greatest losses, the documents being largely destroyed by the German authorities. The fonds is arranged according to individual handling periods, and an inventory was made for it.
