Biographical History
The district governor's office in Valašské Meziříčí was established in 1850 and included 3 court districts (Valašské Meziříčí, Vsetín, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm). The office performed the political administration of the district. It was headed by the district governor. In 1854, the governor's office was divided into three mixed district offices. In 1868, the governor's office was restored. In 1919-28, the name was changed to the district political administration. During the Nazi occupation, the territory administered by the autonomous authorities of the Protectorate administration was supervised by the so-called Oberlandrat, later by the "Reich Command" Reichsauftragsverwaltung. In 1945, national committees were established.
Archival History
Part of the registry was destroyed during appraisals at the beginning of the 20th century. Part of the fonds was taken over by the Provincial Archives in Brno (1943-1944). The files created by the German authorities were destroyed. The census records have been preserved in poor condition. The fonds was organized and inventoried in the 1960s and 1970s.

The fonds contains documents arisen from the activities of the district office: official books, file material and accounting material.
