J. A. Kluge, Horní Staré Město
Extent and Medium
13,77 linear meters
Acquisition
Only a fraction of the records in the archival fonds of J. A. Klug, Horní Staré Město has been preserved. It is not known where the records were originally kept, but the most likely place was at the company's plants in Horní Staré Město and Rudník. A large amount of documents were destroyed after 1945, which is why most of the extant records in the fonds are from the 1920s, 1930s and the period of the German occupation. At the end of the 1950s, all of the surviving records were transferred to the business archives of the state-owned enterprise Texlen. A partial inventory of the records of the company's plant at Rudník was carried out in 1958, and a partial inventory of the fonds was done in 1982. An acquisition to the fonds was recorded in a subsequent partial inventory in 1997. The fonds is now kept in the State District Archives in Trutnov.
Scope and Content
The extant records are important sources for the history of flax industry in the Trutnov region from the period of the First Republic and the German occupation, but often also have a wider import beyond the region. They document the use of Jewish female prisoners and POWs as forced labour at the J. A. Klug Company's plants. Invoices and bills of lading from 1943–1945 have been preserved almost in their entirety; these can provide evidence of the company's business relations and of the deliveries of products to customers during the Second World War. The fonds contains photographs of the individual factory buildings where the prisoners worked. It also includes a diary with entries on important events and visits to the plant in Temný Důl, which provides interesting information.
System of Arrangement
The fonds is arranged as follows: A) Company management and administration B) Employees C) Accounting and reporting D) Documents relating to buildings and technology 1) Construction documents 2) Technical documents E) Photographs F) Samplers.
