Acquisition

After the end of World War II. the registry of the Oberfinanzpräsident Troppau (Supreme Financial President in Opava) was kept in the building of the District National Committee in Opava. Then in the years 1957–1959 it was gradually transferred to the State Archives in Opava. In 1960 the fonds was arranged and given an inventory. In connection with compensation for victims of the Holocaust, in 2000 a decision was taken to make out a catalogue covering the paperwork concerning the seizure of Jewish real estate (inv. № 2079–2122, 2152–2157).

Scope and Content

The fonds contains sources concerning the organisation and structure of financial administration in the relevant administrative circuit during the period 1938–1945. The file groups O 5200–O 5400, which contain materials from 1940–1944, are fundamental for the study of Jewish history. Specifically they are the directives and decrees for the use of seized Jewish and other enemy property and for the transfer of works of art from this property to the Reich Regional Museum in Opava (inv. № 91, call number 5200, box 2077), intimations of yields of Reich Minister of Finance from 4. 11. and 9. 12. 1941 and transfer of Jews to occupied eastern territories and confiscation of their property (inv. № 91, call number O 5205, box 2077) and documents concerning confiscation of property of Jews from government circuit Opava transported to Terezín with attached lists according to administrative districts and persons (inv. № 91, call number O 5300, box 2077). File group O 5300 continues then with a series of files for the administration and use of larger Jewish property (in particular of businessmen and lawyers) seized for acts hostile to the Reich (inv. № 93, call number O 5300, fasc. 2079 – 2114). Connected to this there is paperwork of a similar composition linked to the administration and financial liquidation of smaller Jewish property seized for the same reason (inv. № 93, call number O 5300, box 2115–2122). In the file group O 6085 there is preserved another series of documents concerning the valuation of property seized from Jews from the years 1940–1944 (inv. № 101, call number O 6085, box 2152–2157).

System of Arrangement

The fonds is arranged according to the original disposition schedule of the Reich Financial Administration from 1938.
