Biographical History
The Mělník District Governor's Office was established in 1850 and operated as a body of political administration until 1855. Between 1855 and 1868, a mixed district office functioned here, as a body of political and judicial administration. After its abolition, the District Governor's Office was established again, later renamed the District Political Administration, and from 1928 again the District Office of Mělník. After 1945, the district office was abolished and replaced by the District National Committee.
Archival History
The fonds is stored in the State District Archives in Mělník. It was taken over in June 1952 and inventoried in 2010.
Scope and Content
The fonds contains official documents of the Mělník district. Information on Jews can be found in: documents of the Mělník Jewish Religious Association from 1871-78 and the Jewish Funeral Fraternity (inv. no. 880); documents of the Mělník Jewish Religious Community from 1907-22 (inv. no. 920); presidium files from 1939-42 (inv. no. 833-836); registration cards of Jews, sorted by persons [A-W] and by municipalities [B-V] (inv. no. 1104); lists of employees - Jews, affairs of the Jewish population and the Jewish Religious Community during the Protectorate, (inv. no. 1172, 1282); Jewish registries (1938-43) (inv. no. 1361); list of arrested Jews (inv. no. 335); records of Jewish property (cottages, businesses, etc.), various regulations and measures against Jews; lecture by Josef Rozsévač-Rys on Jewish masonry (inv. no. 506).
System of Arrangement
The fonds is divided into official books and manuscripts, registry finding aids, and files. The fonds contains 103 boxes and folders of census records - census in 1900, 1910 and 1921.
