Acquisition

The fonds was deposited along with the other court files in the court building in Litoměřice, from whence it was gradually taken by the State Archives in Litoměřice, where it was then inventoried in 1967. The fonds was transferred to the Litoměřice District Archives in 1979. The other part of the fonds was transferred to the registryoffice of what was then the District Court in Litoměřice after the war. These documents were taken on by the archives during appraisal proceedings at the registry officeof the District Court in Litoměřice in 2013.

Scope and Content

The archival fonds comprises documents resulting from the activities of the court operating in the Litoměřice judicial district in the years 1938-1945. The courts documents contain interesting material on Jewish matters, particularly as regards the property matters of persons of Jewish origin. In section VIII – commercial register files, there are the files of firms and companies that had Jewish owners and on forced administration for Jewish businesses; in the collection of deeds for the land books (unarranged part of the fonds) there are transfers for the property of originally Jewish owners (both private and legal persons).

Official books and indexes of the Amtsgericht have been preserved only in fragments. The files are stored by original court file scheme in eight main groups: I. personnel files, II. general and auxiliary files, III. fonds sheets, IV. court agenda, V. labour disputes, VI. health court, VII. inheritance court, and VIII. files for commercial register. Commercial register fileswere kept at the Litoměřice Amtsgericht for the districts of the courts in Benešov nad Ploučnicí, Děčín, Chabařovice, Litoměřice, Lovosice, Štětí, Teplice, Ústí nad Labem and Úštěk.
