Acquisition

The documents of the Amtsgericht Cheb were first kept in the registry of the court building in Cheb. After the Amtsgericht ceased to exist, the registry moved to the building of the Regional Court in Cheb, and from there to the State Archives Plzeň, Kadaň Branch, in 1957. The files were arranged in Kadaň in 1964. The fonds was given to the District Archive in Cheb in 1984. As a relatively large un arranged addition remained in the fonds, and the original aid no longer met the new requirements, its new arrangement was initiated.

Scope and Content

The fonds contains record books and files from the activity of the Amtsgericht (district court) Cheb and documents of the associated inheritance court. Out of the registry finding aids, the entire series of general and civil registers, registers of work disputes, forced administrations of real estate, debtors, inheritance and family law and criminal registers for example have survived. In the department of the medical court, there are preserved registers of care about race, with a list of names from 1940–1944 (inv. № 100–102). In addition to the directives and organisational matters of the court, the administrative files contain for example general files concerning sentencing, treatment of prisoners and care for culture and welfare. The files of the civil dispute law contain, for example, involuntary auctions and administration of real estate and documents about inheritance and family law. It also includes criminal files and other non-dispute ones concerning exclusively registry matters.

System of Arrangement

The files of the Amtsgericht had their own file schemes according to which they were filed. The documents of the Amtsgericht Cheb are divided into books and files. The section Books consists of record books. The Files consists of registry finding aids of district, health and inheritance court and files. The files are subdivided according to administrative task area into administrative, civil dispute, criminal and other non-dispute files. Following them files are included from the activity of the health and inheritance court.
