Acquisition

The documents of the Landrat (District Councillor's Office) Mariánské Lázně were discovered amongst the files of the District National Committee Mariánské Lázně transferred to the archive in 1960. These files were then taken to the State Archives in Plzeň, Žlutice branch. The books of the creator, which remained in the Cheb archives for some unknowns reasons, were inventoried in 1962. In 1984 the files were sent back from Žlutice to the Cheb Archives. During a general inventory in 2001, in the fonds of Stavomat Cheb 4 packets were found, as were 2 binders of other materials of the District Councillor's Office, which were subsequently included in the fonds of the District Councillor's Office Mariánské Lázně.

Scope and Content

The fonds contains the fragmentary surviving documents from the activity of the office of German state administration on the territory of the Sudetenland for the district of Mariánské Lázně. In the part of the fonds including books there is a list of businesses and people subject to supervision of the area control office from the years 1938–1945 (inv. № 1), also books concerning the payment of social benefits from 1941–1945 (inv. № 2-6), list of names for book about family relations (Familienbuch) from 1938 (inv. № 7) and two accounting books. Out of the files, only a small fraction of accounting matters of the administration of the office has survived. The surviving documents of the department for police matters include requests for permission to open shops from the years 1920–1945 arranged in alphabetical order (inv. № 13) and questionnaires for Jewish and Czech house owners from the years 1940–1941 (inv. № 14). The fonds also contains a fraction of the documents of the department for sovereign affairs, for example files concerning weddings (inv. № 15). Once again, only a small fraction of the documents have survived from the department of cultural matters, the health office and office for social care and protection of youth.

The fonds is divided into I. Books and II. Files. The books are structured into two groups - A) records, B) accounts. The files contain the files classified according to the administrative task area.

Conditions Governing Reproduction

Almost half of the documents in the fonds (0,35) is not arranged and is inaccessible.
