Acquisition

The documents of the Landrat (District Councillor's Office) Cheb were transferred to the archive from the building of the District National Committee Cheb in 1958. In 1959 the fonds was arranged. In the 1960s the fonds was transferred to the State Archives in Plzeň. In 1984 the documents from the branch Regional State Archives Plzeň – Žlutice were transferred back to Cheb. After the revision of the fonds in 1993 another 24 boxes and 5 bundles of documents of the District Councillor's Office Cheb were found and appended to the fonds of this office.

Scope and Content

The fonds contains record and accounting books, registry finding aids and files from the activity of the office of German state administration on the territory of the Sudetenland for the district Cheb. In the section Kult I – School matters, under inv. № 308 there are files concerning the teaching of Gypsy and Jewish children from 1940–1944. Under inv. № 329 files are kept about school matters of Jews from 1939.

The layout of the fonds corresponds to the original disposition schedule of the creator. At the beginning there are books, which are structured into record and accounts books. There follow files, which are structured into registry finding aids and files. The actual files are structured into 11 sections according to the administrative task areas.
