Acquisition

The fonds was created by organising the surviving remnants of the register office of the supreme district councillor in Brno. But after 1942 most of these files came under the district head officer in Brno – administration by the order of the Reich. And so the fonds has two creators, because it was desirable to leave the fonds in the joint original file handling. The files of the German offices were transferred to the general register of the Regional National Committee in Brno, and from there in 1956 to the State Archives in Brno (today the Moravian Provincial Archives), where they were sorted into individual groups, and so the group Supreme District Councillor Brno was created. In 1960 the groups were inventoried again.

Scope and Content

The fonds was created from the activity of the supreme district councillor in Brno and district head officer in Brno. It contains materials applying to Germanisation, support of the German fund etc. The archival records labelled WI (Wirthschaftssachen) concerning Aryanization, the appointment of forced administrations etc. were preserved in particular. The files labelled Pol and A (political matters and matters of support for German national sentiment) were also significant. The surviving lists of Nazi functionaries also have significant value.

We can find these documents specifically on the matter of the Jewish question in the fonds: Anonymous letters against Jews 1939–1940; Jewish question – directives, circulars, restrictions on carriage of non–Aryans, residence of Jews in spas, resettlement of Jews, marking of Jews with star, insurance, health service, decrees, food ration coupons, regulation of shopping hours, revocation of driving licences, prohibition on change of home address, securing property, proceedings to discover the origin of physician Dr. Hedvika Kreislerová, proceedings about real estate of firm Windholz in Brno 1939–1943; Jewish matters, list of forced administrations, individual cases of confiscations of Jewish property (in alphabetic order 1942–1943; Aryanization of Jewish real estate, individual cases, undated (lists of persons whose property was seized or was meant to be seized through Aryanization), also the Jewish community Dolní Královice, Jewish community Rousínov is given; the fonds also contains forms with declarations of operational assets of Jewish businesses in Brno 1940 with regulations for Aryanization.

System of Arrangement

In view of the fact that after 1942 most of the files from the records office of the supreme district councillor in Brno were transferred to the District Head Officer in Brno – administration by order of the Reich, it was necessary to leave the fonds of the Supreme District Councillor Brno and District Head Officer – administration by order of the Reich in the original joint file handling, in spite of the fact that these are files created from the activity of two creators. In these two groups the files are arranged by subject according to file labels.
