Biographical History

Daniel Lobe was born on 4 December 1909, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, to parents Hartog Lobe (born 27 February 1885) and Marianne Lelie (born 23 January 1885). The couple, married on 1 August 1907, had four children: Daniel, Vogelina (born 23 June 1912), Lodewyck (born 9 April 1916), and Edward (born 8 March 1918). The family moved to Belgium on 2 May 1919, where Hartog worked as a disk polisher and Marianne managed the household. On September 20, 1932, Daniel Lobe married Bertha Moens (born 17 March 1906, in Merksem) in Antwerp. The couple, residing at Venneborglaan 76, Antwerp, had three children: Bartha (born 12 June 1933), Ivan (born 4 April 1938), and Caroline Louise (born 6 November 1941). Daniel was employed as an office clerk in the "Encre Hayon" printing ink factory in Anderlecht. Meanwhile, Vogelina Lobe, Daniel's sister, had settled in the Netherlands in 1930 and was married to Frans Albert Theresia Dille. Tragedy struck the family when, on 21 August 1942, Hartog and Marianne, Daniel's parents, arrived at the Dossin barracks answering the call of their Arbeitseinsatzbefehl. A week later, on 29 August 1942, they were deported with Transport VI to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where they both perished. On the same day of their departure, Daniel Lobe was registered at the Dossin barracks. After enduring a lengthy internment, he regained his freedom on 17 May 1943, by providing evidence of his lineage to the authorities and demonstrating Mischehe status, indicating his engagement in a mixed marriage with Bertha Moens. Remarkably, the couple and their children survived the war.
