Biographical History
Najm Wolf Rosan (also Rozan) was born on 7 November 1873 in Przemysl, the Austro-Hungarian empire (today Poland), as the son of Mordka Rosan and Nenta Caplan. He became a cardboard manufacturer and emigrated via England to Belgium in September 1897. On 29 June 1901 Najm Wolf Rosan married Chaika Benenson (born on 12 April 1879 in Vilna, then Russia, today Lithuania). Together, they had three children: David (born on 10 October 1901 in Anderlecht), Lisa (born on 26 January 1903 in Anderlecht) and Henri (born on 5 March 1904 in Anderlecht). On 1 May 1911, Najm Wolf’s wife Chaika passed away in Anderlecht. On 12 February 1913, he married Liba Dweira Jwawy (born on 19 September 1888 in Kolno, Poland). The couple had two more children together: Rachel (born on 21 May 1913 in Anderlecht) and Max (born on 22 April 1917 in Anderlecht). The family lived at Rue de l’Instruction 95 in Anderlecht for a long time. When Nazi-Germany invaded Belgium on 10 May 1940, Najm Wolf, his wife Liba and their youngest child Max were living at Rue Georges Moreau 31 in Anderlecht. On 15 August 1942, Najm Wolf Rosan was arrested in a café near the Bourse in Brussels. He was transferred to the SS-Sammellager Mecheln (Dossin barracks) and was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau via transport IV on 18 August 1942. Najm Wolf Rosan was murdered. His wife nor his children were deported. Najm Wolf Rosan’s widow Liba Dweira Jwawy passed away in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre on 17 August 1956.

On 8 June 1997, Max Rosan kindly donated reproductions of two family photos to the Jewish Museum of Deportation and Resistance, predecessor of Kazerne Dossin.
