Biographical History
Donor Emile Serfati is presumably related to Maria Sarphati, the person to whom the parcel request forms in this collection were sent. The relationship between Maria Sarphati and the applicants is also unclear. The applicants were Rebecca Slap and her daughter Henriette Danielle Wilkens, and Mozes Goudsmit. All three of the applicants were living at the same address around the time of their arrest in 1943 (Generaal Cabrastraat 1, Antwerp). Rebecca Slap and Henriette Danielle Wilkens were deported from the SS-Sammellager Mecheln (Dossin barracks) to Auschwitz-Birkenau via Transport XXIIA on 20 September 1943 and were murdered. Mozes Goudsmit and his wife Sara Cohen were also registered for deportation via Transport XXIIA but were transferred to the Jewish Altersheim (elderly home) in Brussels on 16 September 1943. Both survived the war there.
Archival History
On 20 May 2001, Emile Serfati kindly donated the original documents in this collection to the Jewish Museum of Deportation and Resistance, predecessor of Kazerne Dossin.
