Waren zu Beginn der Tätigkeit Dokumente von nur rund 50 ehemaligen Spanienkämpfern in den allgemeinen Beständen des DÖW vorhanden, umfasst die Spanien-Dokumentation nun Quellenmaterial über mehr als 1.000 Österreicher im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg. Rund 400 Personen sind nur über Hinweise erfasst. Die Sammlung wird durch die Spezialbibliothek "Spanischer Bürgerkrieg" ergänzt.
