    Contains a German passport ("Deutsches Reich Reisepass") issued to Mina Loeffler (mother-in-law of donor's cousin), March 1941, Vienna, Austria. Issued by Chief of Police, Vienna, Germany (Austria); letter "J" stamped in red ink; middle name "Sara" added; contains official stamps allowing travel through Spain and Portugal; contains immigration visa for the United States dated May 19, 1941.

    Contains photographs, documents and correspondence illustrating the experiences of Jakob Enslein and his wife, Margarete Einstein Enslei, and their two children Kurt and Hans Gerd [donor, b. 1929]. Gerd was born in Cologne, Germany, and in 1932 his parents relocated the family first to Belgium then in 1933 to France, first to Paris and then Collias, Nimes and Perigaux, before eventually fleeing through Spain and arriving in the United States in early May 1941.

    Set of ration stamps, one of a number of materials documenting the experiences of the Stripounsky (later Strip) family: Menachem Nathan and Regina Stripounsky and their sons Joseph and Asriel during the time period surrounding the Holocaust. The Stripounskys fled Antwerp, Belgium in May 1940 to France. After a year, they got American visas, traveling via Spain and Portugal, arriving in New York in May 1941. Joseph was sent by the US Army to Germany in 1944.

    The "Reisepass" was issued to Pauline Franziska "Sara" Joseph (b. Neustadt) [friend of donor] by the Chief of Police in Berlin, Germany. It is stamped with a red "J" in the upper left corner to identify the holder as a Jew. It includes immigration visas for the United States issued in Germany and Spain.

    Contains photographs and negatives compiled by Liane Reif-Lehrer, a survivor of the Holocaust who interviewed numerous survivors of the "MS. St. Louis" for a potential research project about that ship. Ms. Reif-Lehrer was born in 1934 in Vienna, Austria and, together with her mother and brother, were on the St. Louis, returned to France and fled to the United States through Spain and Portugal.

    Contains Tova Klein Sego's account of her experiences in Kassa, Hungary, (until 1938 known as Košice, Slovakia) during the Holocaust; her life in the ghetto; her escape to Slovakia where she was reunited with her sister, Margaret; the arrival of her parents and brother, Michael, a few weeks later; their life in hiding in various villages and in the mountains; their liberation by the Russians in February 1945; and their reunion with other members of their immediate family and return to Košice.

Part 3, crowds, including children, attend a military, exhibit in Vienna. Contributions for "winter aid" are collected. Part 4, Flemish musicians perform in a Berlin cabaret. Part 5, a wedding is performed in Le Meuse, France. Part 6, factory workers attend a concert performed by the Berlin Philharmonic. Part 7, cultural and religious monuments in Lubeck, Germany, rubbled by British air raids.

    Documents and correspondence concerning Samuel Halber (donor’s father). Born June 22, 1914 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, he fled Nazi-occupied Europe in 1941 through Spain and Portugal were he applied for a US visa, ultimately arriving in New York City in 1941. He was drafted into the United States Army and was a Military Intelligence Interpreter, translating German, Dutch, and French in England until 1945, when he was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) and supervised the denazification of German railroads in the US Zone.
