    1. Walter E. Hunkler collection

    Contains two documents titled allowing U.S. military officer to possess and/or mail "captured enemy military equipment," retrieved and used by Sergeant Walter Hunkler, dated August 20, 1945. One envelope with "Dachau" written on front and "44." Group of black and white photographs from Dachau, taken by Sergeant Hunkler, and othes gathered in Germany after liberation of the camp. The documents belonged to Walter Hunkler (donor's husband), Sergeant, assigned to medical detachment of the 160th Field Artillery Battalion, a unit of the 45th armored division that entered concentration camp Dachau...

  2. Michael Colgan, Sr. papers

    The papers consist largely of 11 photographs depicting a concentration camp (probably Buchenwald) at the time of liberation and various anonymous members of the German military. There is also an obituary for Franz Suchy who died on December 21, 1942, in the Battle of Ploskaja, as well as an employment identification card from the German railroad for Heinrich Suchy.

  5. Paris; Workers/POWs; soldiers celebrate

    Reel I: Germans in Paris, placing wreaths at the tomb of the unknown soldier, flags, wreaths, etc. March in streets, rally, Vel d'Hiv. Speaker: Jaques Doriot. Workers (men and women, some POWs) in a factory, in mines, etc. The music is very reminiscent of the opening theme of Beethoven's Third Symphony, Eroica. Reel II: EXT, soldiers clowning around outside of their barracks. Soldiers eat, sing, dance, pretend to be bull fighters, and generally have a good time.

  6. Ilya Yoffe papers

    The photographs depict the donor's family before World War II, Dr. Gershon Grisha Yoffe [donor's brother] who fell in action in 1941, and the donor during his military service in the Soviet Red Army during and after the war. The papers also include a letter written by Dr. Grisha Woffe two months before being killed in action, a diploma from medical school issued to Dr. Grisha Yoffe in Voronezh, Russia, and a memorial pamphlet in which the donor's brother is mentioned.

    The papers consist of military documents and photographs which belonged to Irving H. Rosenberg who served in the United States Army, 4th Armored Division, in Europe in 1944 and 1945. The photographs appear to be taken immediately after the liberation of a concentration camp.

    German troops in the port of Piraeus. Arms for the Germans are unloaded from ships. Aerial shot of POWs in a camp with 10,000 prisoners. CUs of prisoners, described by the narrator as "helpers" from all over the world that the English have impressed into service, and who are now happy that the war is over for them. CU on Indians, Arabs, and a native New Zealander. More shots of the men, focusing on various racial "types." Serbian troops, then prisoners who are identified as Jews who have emigrated and are now volunteers in the English army.
