Mandates/Sources of Authority

The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco has the following missions

  1. To collect, process, preserve and disseminate the national documentary heritage as well as foreign documentary collections representative of the knowledge of humanity.
  2. To promote and facilitate access to its documentary collections and bibliographic information.
  3. To ensure a role of coordination and cooperation within the national network of libraries.
  4. To participate in national and international scientific activity and to develop research programmes in relation to its missions and to the documentary heritage for which it is responsible.

Administrative Structure

Records Management and Collecting Policies

Since its inauguration by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2008, the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco has enjoyed particular interest. It is committed to improving and renovating its operating methods, in this case its collection development strategy. Archival and Other Holdings

The General Public area offers over 53,000 recent and topical documents on two levels, classified thematically according to the Dewey classification.

The Periodicals area offers 10,000 journal titles covering all disciplines. The Audiovisual area is equipped with modern material for viewing and reading this type of document. It is intended for the general public as well as for researchers and professionals in the sector.

The Special Collections area provides BNRM users with a documentation of approximately 67,548 documents including cartographic, iconographic and object documents.

The Research area offers more than 250,000 heritage documents (manuscripts, incunabula and lithographs, rare books) and contemporary documents.

Finding Aids, Guides, and Publication

Opening Times

The library is open to the public from Monday to Saturday. Opening hours vary according to the reception area. The BNRM may have to modify them temporarily during the year in order to organise the processing of its collections. Any exceptional closure will be notified in advance.

Ramadan hours: 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, Saturday 10am to 2pm.

Conditions of Access

The BNRM is a public service open to anyone with at least a bachelor's degree, regardless of their status (students, teachers, researchers, public or private sector staff, retirees, journalists, authors and, exceptionally, occasional visitors)

Access to the BNRM is subject to an annual membership fee and is governed by a set of rules for good users which specifies the rights, obligations and sanctions incurred in the event of non-compliance with its provisions by users.

Accessibility

The visually impaired area welcomes visually impaired people to enable them to access reading by using specialised equipment (character magnifier, voice synthesis software and Braille printer).

Reproduction Services

For any reproduction of a document (photocopy, microfilming or digitisation), it is necessary to fill in a form which can be obtained from one of the loan banks. This service, for which a fee is charged, is provided on site.

The Reprography service allows you to make photocopies on the spot or to print from microforms.

Public Areas

The orientation service facilitates orientation in the different areas. Computer research is provided by 40 computer stations. The cafeteria is both a place to eat and a place of conviviality, linking the library to its environment. The kiosk offers for sale documents published by the BNRM but also cultural products and derivatives from other Moroccan and foreign cultural institutions. The cloakrooms allow the deposit of bulky objects and personal belongings. The prayer room can accommodate more than thirty people.

The auditorium, with a capacity of 300 people, is equipped with high performance projection and sound equipment. The exhibition area occupies 300m²; it is equipped with sound and can accommodate projections. The training areas have a variable capacity to host various events: seminars, training workshops, meetings, etc. .... These spaces are also meeting places for a conference, a round table or a projection.
