Центральный научный архив Национальной академии наук Республики Беларусь

The Central Scientific Archive of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is an departmental storehouse of the documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus. It was founded at the beginning of the 1930s as archive of BSSR Academy of Sciences, since 1958 was in the structure of the Administrative Staff of the Presidium of BSSR Academy of Sciences, and from the end of 1987 works as an independent scientific-methodical division at the Institute of History of NAS of Belarus. By the end of the 1930s, items (files) in the archive were numbered up to 4000, which almost completely were lost during the Great Domestic War 1941-1945. In post-war years the funds of archive have grown considerably, and at the beginning of the 1960s archival files were numbered 20,000. During 1970s, due to opening the Academy's institutes at the regional centers of Belarus, the Central Scientific Archive's branches in regional institutes were also formed. There are 10 archives-branches in the Academy's scientific organizations nowadays, the methodical management with which is carried out by the Central Scientific Archive.

Accordingly to the Law of the Republic of Belarus On the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Academy of Sciences has the right to keep in the Central Scientific Archive of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and in the archives of its scientific organizations the Man's of Science manuscripts in the field of literature, culture and art, and also the archival materials of the Academy's bodies or other materials representing important value for a history of science. The Academy of Sciences presents to appropriate state institutions the information on structure and contents of the documents of the Academy's Central Scientific Archive and archives of its scientific institutes with the purpose of inclusion of the items of information about them in table of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus.

As of 01.01.2008, in the Central Scientific Archive of NAS of Belarus alone 92 funds were registered, in which about 50,000 files for 1922-2006 are stored. There are among them the organizational-administrative documents and documents on personal structure of the Presidium of NAS of Belarus and its organizations; the protocols of sessions of the Presidium of NAS of Belarus and scientific councils of institutes; the protocols of General Meetings of NAS of Belarus, the Academy's departments, trade-union organizations; the annual and five years' plans of research works; the annual reports on NAS of Belarus and its institutes activities; the documents on training the scientific staff, on scientific connections and cooperation with foreign countries; lists of staff; the reports on fiscal-economic activities; the documents of sub-committees on the State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and engineering; personal funds of a number of the scientists, and other documents.
