In 1931 there were only 13 small rural districts in the district: Balbieriškis, Gudeliai, Igliškėliai, Kalvarija, Kazlai, Krosna, Liubavas, Liudvinavas, Marijampolė, Prienai, Sasnava, Šilavotas, Veiveriai.
