  1. Reichsarbeitsministerium file carrier. Item

    This object is a file carrier used by the Antwerp department of the Reichsarbeitsministerium to store index cards regarding labour during the war.

  3. Relieken - Reliques. Collection Relics

    The “Relics” collection comprises 3,065 envelopes. Each contains personal documents confiscated by the Aufnahme (camp administration) at the SS-Sammellager Mecheln (Dossin barracks) upon arrival of a detainee at the barracks. The documents range from photographs to letters, ID cards, university diplomas, marriage certificates, etc. Each envelope refers to a single detainee or a family. Most of these detainees were eventually deported via Transport XX to XXVI. No “Relics” exist for deportees from Transports I to XIX.     This item is a studio portrait of Renée Flaksbaum. The back of the photo mentions the date on which she gave it to her non-Jewish friend Lucy Lauwerijs, 8 August 1942, which is the same day that Renée left for the Dossin barracks with a convocation for forced labour (Arbeitseinsatzbefehl).

  7. Research by David Inowlocki on hidden children and their rescuers in Belgium. Collection

    This collection consists of 57 research files. Every file was carefully composed by David Inowlocki during his presidency of the Hidden Children Association Belgium (L’Enfant Caché). The files revolve around a hidden child or a rescuer, and contain photocopied documents and proposals in order to request Yad Vashem to award a rescuer the title of Righteous among the Nations.

  8. Research by Jean-Paul Denis on the municipality of Jette. Collection

    This collection consists of four folders containing copies of historical documents on the persecution of the Jewish community and on the resistance in Jette. The documents include copies of items from the municipal archives of Jette, the Jewish Museum of Belgium, the Archives Service for War Victims, the State Archives of Belgium and Kazerne Dossin as well as information obtained by Jean-Paul Denis from family members of resistance fighters.

  9. Research by Marc Michiels on Transport XX. Collection

    This collection consists of two intertwined sections : (1) documents and photos regarding the annual commemoration of the attack against Transport XX in Boortmeerbeek, including the ceremonial administration and delivered speeches ; (2) research materials – largely copies of documents, testimonies and research articles – collected by Marc Michiels in preparation for his book on Transport XX. This collection is only accessible at the Kazerne Dossin documentation centre.

  10. Research by Nico Hamme on the Chateau de Bassines and the children hidden there. Collection

    This collection contains research files, compiled by Nico Hamme who, as a child, was hidden at the Chateau de Bassines near Havelange, Namur. Every file revolves around a child who was also hidden at the chateau or around one of the rescuers there. The files contain testimonies of the child or rescuer, correspondence between them and Nico Hamme, and in some cases photocopies of photos. This collection is only accessible at the Kazerne Dossin documentation center after a substantiated request.

    The collection consists of: two diplomas issued to Lambert Robert by the Institut des Arts et Métiers [Institute for the Arts and Professions] in Brussels (1940 and 1942) ; a diploma of rescuer issued in 1980 to Robert Lambert and his parents Jules and Caroline Lambert by the Comité d'Hommage des Juifs de Belgique 1940-1945 [Honorary Committee of the Jews of Belgium 1940-1945] ; a photocopy of a diploma of Righteous among the Nations issued to Robert Lambert and his parents Jules and Caroline Lambert by Yad Vashem in 1995 for helping the Kuniecpol family while they were in hiding.

    This collection consists of: two photos of a young Roger Pauwels ; two documents of the Sotramont company confirming Roger Pauwels's departure to and arrival at Auschwitz ; a letter and a telegram sent by Roger Pauwels while working in Auschwitz to his parents in Brussels ; two post-war documents regarding the search for Roger Pauwels ; a deportation commemoration medal.

    This collection contains: a post-war letter written by Rosette Hammer to her rescuer, sister Beate (unidentified), in Belgium, in which Rosette describes her new life in Denmark and her struggle with religious subjects ; a photo of Rosette Hammer and her siblings Leopold and Bertha Hammer, taken in 1944.
