    During the Second World War (and the rule of the Independent State of Croatia) the Muslim community received numerous requests for conversion to Islamic faith by Jewish families from Tuzla and nearby towns. The documentation includes these requests for approval of conversion, minutes and decisions in this regard. Jewish families applied for conversion in order to avoid persecution, arrest and being sent to concentration camps by Ustasha regime of the Independent State of Croatia.

    The school in Sarajevo for Jewish (Sephardi) children was formed in 1903. Records (books) of the school were preserved and kept in Elementary school "Jovan Jovanović Zmaj" Sarajevo, from which they were transferred to the Archive of Sarajevo. While not directly related to the Holocaust period, it is of significance for tracking information regarding Jewish families that lived in Sarajevo before World War 2, their addresses, education, family ties, etc. and comparing it to other data.

    The fond contains general documentation about employees of the school, reports, statistical reports about students, orders for different equipment, class books, financial and exam records, etc. The school had significant number of Jewish students and can provide information about them, but it also had important sponsorship and suppliers in local Jewish companies/stores.

  8. Document collection of the Museum

    The part of Museum dedicated to Bosnian Jews (Jewish Museum) is located in old synagogue, in Sarajevo. The collection contains plenty of exhibits, but it also includes documentation and archival material among which are photographs, movie scripts, illustrations and paintings, lists of non-Jews who assisted or hid Jews during the Holocaust, book of Jewish victims, diaries, etc

  14. Papo Laura - Bohoreta

    The fond contains original manuscripts and related documents of Laura Papo - Bohoreta. The Archive of Sarajevo considers this fond one of its most important and relevant collections among those of families/public figures, since Laura Papo was one of key figures in Sephardic community of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She died in 1942, and lost members of her family due to Holocaust.

Contains different types of documentation about formation of special committees for assessing of war damages and losses, seizure of illicit war gains (some obtained at the expense of Jewish community), dossiers, minutes and reports from conferences, etc.

    Regional People's Liberation committees were formed during World War 2 to ensure organizational and political activity in liberated territories of Yugoslavia. They were formed by the Communist Partisans, and their goal and task was to regulate everyday life in free, liberated territories; it participated in resolving sensitive issues and problems, thus earning good reputation among the population. The material contains data produced by Regional People's Liberation Committee for Bosanska Krajina (northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina).

    The fond contains records about property and goods, land, buildings, companies, etc that were nationalized and became the state property under Communist Yugoslavia, right after World War 2. In some cases, not only property of Germans and their collaborators became state property, but also the state managed properties of those who were killed during the war (in concentration camps, etc.) or their whereabouts were unknown.     The fond contains dossiers with information about property of all types (mostly movable goods) that was either confiscated from enemies (German nationals and other enemies of the state after World War 2) or restored to their original owners that lost it during Ustasha regime of the Independent State of Croatia (Serbs and Jews in most cases). Each dossier carries a name of individual (or several of them) whose property was confiscated, restored, or was involved in the work of the Office in some way.     The Museum owns a collection of mostly photographs that depicts old synagogue, Jewish cemetery in Bihać, Jewish stores before the Second World War, etc. While basic, it might still be valuable for research into local Jewish community and Holocaust.
