  1. Herbert Kalter collection

    The collection conists of a pocketknife and a bar of soap acquired by Herbert Kalter at Buna concentration camp in 1944.

  2. Iteld family papers

    The collection contains correspondence, identification and immigration papers, and photographs documenting the Iteld family’s pre-war life in Brańsk, Poland, and their immigration to the United States in 1938. Included are immigration cards and documents, an autograph book, passport, and a day planner from 1938. Also included are prewar and wartime photographs documenting the Iteld and Shereshefsky families in Brańsk and the United States. Many of the photographs are annotated on the back with identifications of relatives and friends.

    The collection consists of artwork, a Star of David badge, documents, and photographic materials relating to the experiences of Jacob Barosin during and after World War II when he was a prisoner in Gurs internment camp and Langlade forced labor camp and lived in hiding in Paris, France.

    The collection consists of camera equipment, glass slides, and documents relating to the experiences of Hugo Jaeger, who was a personal photographer for Adolf Hitler during World War II.

  6. Betty Cohen papers

    The Betty Cohen papers document the Dutch families who concealed her during the Holocaust. Records include a personal narrative Betty wrote for Yad Vashem describing her rescuers, Tieme and Alie Beuving and Johannes (Joep) and Agnes Garben; photographs of herself, her parents, her brothers and sister, her husband, and the Garbens; and a poem she composed describing her hiding space on the Garbens’ farm in Azewijn, Gelderland.

  7. "Of Ships and Men: From Toledo to Leghorn and then to Tunis"

    Consists of one manuscript, 104 pages, entitled "Of Ships and Men: From Toledo to Leghorn and then to Tunis," with a copy in French, by Giacomo Nunez, originally of Tunis. In the manuscript, Mr. Nunez describes the history of the Jewish community in Italy, Spain, and Tunis throughout history, focusing specifically on the experiences of the Nunez family. He also describes his own childhood in Tunis and memories of World War II as a Jewish boy in North Africa, including his memories of bombings and forced labor.

  8. Selected records from the National Archives of Malta

    This collection contains records relating to the Jewish Community of Malta, such as birth and marriage certificates, applications for passports and permission to travel, immigration to Malta, internment, and travel from Palestine.

  9. Raffaelle Salom identification card

    Raffaelle Salom's identification card was issued to him by the Italian Fascists' Registro di Popolazione (Population Registry) office in Split, Croatia, on August 22, 1943. The card is stamped "ebreo," the Italian word for Jew. Raffaelle Salom was a Bosnian Jew from Sarajevo who escaped deportation by the Croatian Ustaše by relocating to a region of Croatia under the Italian occupation.

  10. "From Rue Vieille du Temple to Limoux"

    Consists of one memoir, 39 pages, entitled "From Rue Vieille du Temple to Limoux" by Perla Hauszwalb Nunez, who survived the Holocaust in Limoux, France. Mrs. Nunez escaped to Limoux as a teenager after the deportation of her mother and siblings during the Vel d'Hiv round-up in Paris in July 1942. Includes copies of family photographs, correspondence with people who helped her, and information about the fates of the members of the Hauszwalb family.

  11. "Living Surgical History, or Sisyphus at the Water Fountain"

    Consists of two chapters of a memoir entitled "Living Surgical History, or Sisyphus at the Water Fountain" by Dr. Henry Gans, originally of Zevenaar, the Netherlands. In these chapters, Dr. Gans describes his memories of his schooling in Arnhem under the German occupation of the Netherlands, learning his father was selected for deportation to Westerbork, and the decision for his family to go into hiding. Dr. Gans, a teenager at the time, spent thirty months in hiding with his brother at a farm in Angelo, a small village in the Netherlands. The family was reunited after the Allied liberation...

  12. Frida Gefen family papers

    Correspondence regarding the Holocaust experiences of Jacob Szmulowicz who fled Lida, Lithuania (Lida, Belarus) with his son Samuel to Shanghai in 1939. His wife Liba, daughter Frida, and son Eliezer were deported to Siberia in 1940.

  13. "Süssholz Siblings: The War"

    Consists of one memoir, 50 pages, entitled "Süssholz Siblings: The War" by Friedl Süssholz-Wolfstein, originally of Trier, Germany. She describes her childhood, her father and brother's deportation from Germany as stateless persons in 1938, and her own escape as a child into Belgium, where her family was slowly reunited. After various attempts to escape after the outbreak of war, Friedl and her brothers were arrested in France, and Friedl was deported to Auschwitz, where she worked sorting victim belongings in the "Canada" section of the camp.     An American serviceman holds a slate that identifies the cameraman as Daniel and the date as November 30, 1943. US Army and Naval officers enter and exit a brick building guarded by MP's. The building appears to be part of a US military compound in the desert. 01:53:28 Soviet soldiers drill on the grounds of the Soviet embassy, where the Teheran conference was held. American miltiary cameramen film them. Shots of Joseph Stalin posing for the cameras with other conference participants. This material does not correspond to the description on the NARA story card.

  19. Hanna eats and plays on the terrace with Lieberman family, prewar Poland

    CU, Hanna, with a bow in her hair, eats out of a bowl. She looks around a lot, and plays a bit, but seems to enjoy the food. Cut to outside, the kids are playing with their wagon, and many more adults are around this time. Thomas has a large toy car as well.
