  1. Membership card

    "Dienstkarte der Hitler-Jugend (BDM-Werk 'Glaube und Schönheit')" is an 8-page fold-out document issued by the BDM (Bund Deutscher Mädel), the female division of the Hitler Youth, to Ilse Wingleb of Droyssig, Germany. Ink stamped "1096199;" three purple ink stamps with eagle insignia of Nazi Germany; signed by troop leader "Wolf" and a local official.Bund Deutscher Mädel, also known as BDM or League of German Girls, was the female division of the National Socialist youth movement during the Third Reich.

  2. Ted Stone papers

    The papers consist of three letters sent from concentration camps. One letter was sent from Dachau concentration camp by Georg Aarcholski (b. December 11, 1920) to the Generalgouvernement in Poland, December 5, 1943. Two letters were sent from Auschwitz concentration camp by Alexander Hertel (b. December 13, 1912) to "Mutti" in Sosnowitz (Sosnowiec), Poland, February 14, 1943 and April 29, 1943.

  3. Rita Sands papers

    The papers consist mostly of letters written to Rita Dienstag (later Rita Sands), alias "Renee" while in hiding, by her parents from hiding places and internment camps in France. One of the letters was tossed by Rita's mother, Gusta Zwikel Dienstag, from a cattle car en route to Auschwitz in 1942.

  4. Certificate

    The certificate issued on April 20, 1941, in Germany recognizes the induction of H. Seyb into the Hitler-Jugend (Hitler Youth).

  5. Nicholas Berman papers

    The papers consist of a certificate with a statement of Dr. Mikios Bermann's release from Theresienstadt and two registration certificates issued to Dr. Mikulas Berman and Gisela Bermanova, his wife, by the Czechoslovakian Repatriation Office.

  6. Merrill B. Remick photograph collection

    The collection consists of seven color film negatives taken at the liberation of Ohrdruf concentration camp by Merrill Remick, a medic in the 261st Infantry Regiment, 65th Infantry Division, of the American Third Army.

  7. Sweisserok

    The poem "Sweisserok" was written by Erzsebet Frank at Markkleeberg in 1945 and describes the friendship and daily lives of twelve welders at the Junkers-Markkleeberg slave labor camp during the Holocaust. The poem features an illustration of the welders by a fellow laborer, possibly a young woman named Gizella. One of the welders described in the poem is Erszebet Zucker (later Elizabeth Mermel, b. 1924, Sátoraljaújhely, Hungary), who carried the poem during the death march evacuation from Markkleeberg in April 1945.   8. Blumenthal family papers

    The Blumenthal family papers consist of biographical materials, correspondence, emigration and immigration papers, and photographs documenting the Blumenthal family from Hüttengesäß; Albert, Alice, and Ellen Blumenthal’s immigration to the United States before World War II; and Bernhard Blumenthal’s deportation to Theresienstadt during the Holocaust.   9. Henryk Langsam identification card

    The identification card was issued to Henryk Langsam in Thüringen (Thuringia), Germany, after liberation and indicates that the recipient was a political prisoner at Buchenwald concentration camp.

  10. Passports

    The passport ("Reisepass") stamped with a red "J" was issued to Leo Schweitzer by the German Consulate in Jaffa (Tel Aviv), Palestine (Israel). It includes immigration visas for the United States and transit visas for France and Switzerland.

  11. Leah Lipman photograph collection

    The collection consists of photographs documenting the wartime and post-war experiences of Ethel (née Fischman) and Abraham Kleinman, both of whom survived the Holocaust and met and married in the Fürth displaced persons camp. The photographs include depictions of Ethel and Abraham shortly after their engagement in Fürth and their wedding day on 26 August 1946. There is also one photograph depicting Israel Fischman (standing third from right) among a group of Hungarian Jewish laborers, circa 1941-circa 1944.

    The letter was sent from the local chairman of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront German Workers Front to the mayor of Andernach, Germany, informing him that August Gutmann, owner of a toy and sport shop in Andernach, participated in the funeral of the Jew, Loeb, and asking him to note that Gutmann is not a member of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront.

    The papers consist of a photograph of Yankel and Blima Kilanski, a photograph of the Kilanskis' two sons, Srulek and Shmulek, a postcard sent from Isrulek Frydman in Pabianice, Poland, to his uncle, A. Friedman, in Washington, D.C., and a postcard sent by Blima Kilanska in Warsaw, Poland, to Fannie Friedman in Washington, D.C.

  16. Edith Bredehoft papers

    The Edith Bredehoft papers consist of a letter and three postcards sent from Dachau concentration camp by Oskar Richter to Klara (Clara) Richter, circa 1938-1939; and an identifcation card issued to Dr. Oskar Richter in Shanghai, China.

    The papers consist of an identification card for Fajwel Weinberg [donor's father] issued by the Arbeitsamt-Getto [Ghetto Labor Organization] in Łódź (Litzmannstadt), Poland, as well as two greeting cards for the New Year with photographs of the Weinberg family [Fajwel, Golda Kajla, Malka, Ester Hadasa, and Leon].

  18. Work permit

    The work permit was issued by the Arbeitsamt-Getto in the ghetto in Łódź, Poland, to Dobrysz Sztern.

  19. Hirsch Altusky papers

    The papers document the Holocaust experiences of brothers Joszyja, Juda, and Moses Altusky, and Hirsch Altusky. Included are two medical receipts from Theresienstadt issued to Hirsch Altusky, postcards sent from Joszyja Altusky and Moses Altusky in Warsaw, Poland, to Juda Altusky in Bronx, N.Y., and a postcard sent from Moses in Warsaw to L. Buchweje in Brussels, Belgium.
