Archival History

Acquisition

The Reichssippenamt created, circulated, and collected the census forms in 1939 and they later became a collection in the Bundesarchiv in Potsdam, Germany. The Genealogical Society of Utah, under contract with the Bundesarchiv, Potsdam, microfilmed the census records in 1991. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Registry of Jewish Holocaust Survivors purchased copies of the 292 microfilm reels in 1995 and later transferred the collection to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives. The Registry acquired an additional reel in 1996 and transferred it to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives shortly thereafter.

Scope and Content

Contains records of the census of "non-Teutonic" (Jews) peoples in Germany conducted by the Reichssippenamt in 1939.

System of Arrangement

Organized into series by census districts. Arrangement is alphabetical by census district, thereunder alphabetical by county (Kreis) and city (Stadt), and thereunder alphabetical by surname.
