Scope and Content

Besides compiling lists of the victims of the Holocaust in Hungary, creating lists of survivors constituted a similarly important and closely related task. First of all, this collection includes lists of liberated Hungarian Jews who had arrived to Budapest. These lists were compiled between July 1945 and January 1946 and their largest segment concerns the month of October 1945. There are also lists of Hungarian Jews who still resided in cities of Germany such as Hannover, Landsberg, Feldafing, Munich shortly after their liberation and the end of the war. Moreover, the collection includes a list of those Hungarian Jews who were liberated at Buchenwald concentration camp. There is also a list of those who sent letters to Hungary upon having been liberated at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Last but not least, the collection contains lists of Jews who returned to the city Miskolc and some of its neighboring settlements.
