History

All-Ukrainian Jewish Council was established in November 20, 1992 during the 1st Jewish Congress of Ukraine and was registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in 1993. The Council emerged from the Kyiv Society for Jewish Culture which, in its turn, was formed in 1988 at the Ukrainian Foundation of Culture.

Mandates/Sources of Authority

All-Ukrainian Jewish Council is non-government organization which unites and represents the Jewish organizations and communities. It was founded with the aim of preserving and development of ethnic cultural heritage and promoting the social needs of the Jews in Ukraine. The Council has its representatives in all regions of Ukraine. The Council is a member of the European Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congress.

Archival and Other Holdings

In order to promote the history of the Holocaust in Ukraine and to perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust victims, four institutions had been created at the All-Ukrainian Jewish Council:

  • “Memory of Babyn Iar” Foundation;

  • “Righteous of Babyn Iar” Association;

  • “Jewish Heroism during the Great Patriotic War” Center;

  • “Memory of the Victims of Fascism in Ukraine” Foundation.

Every institution possesses its own documentary holdings.
