History

On July 22, 1924, the Presidium of the Adygei (Circassian) Regional Executive Committee, in accordance with the instructions of the Central Archive of the RSFSR dated April 19, 1922, decided to establish an Archival Bureau in the city of Krasnodar, which delegated the functions of both archive management and the archive. It was under the jurisdiction of the secretariat of the Adygea Regional Executive Committee, at the same time subordinated to the Central Archive of the RSFSR and the Kuban-Black Sea Archival Bureau, subsequently to the Archival Administration of the North Caucasus Territory, from 1934 to the Azov-Black Sea Territory, and from 1937 to the Krasnodar Kray. The archive materials are divided according to the time of their occurrence into 2 periods - pre-revolutionary (pre-Soviet) and post-revolutionary (Soviet). In 1942, the archive temporarily ceased its activities because of the Nazy occupation of the territory of the Adygei Autonomous Region (1942-1943). Archive funds were partially lost during the evacuation to Central Asia, partially destroyed on the spot during the occupation. The saved documents were returned together with the documents of the Krasnodar Regional Archive in 1945. In accordance with the decree of the President of the RSFSR of August 24, 1991 “On Party Archives”, the party archive of the Adygea Regional Party Committee of the CPSU is incorporated into the system of the State Archive of the Republic of Adygea as a repository of recent history documentation. In 1992, the Office for Archives of the Republic of Adygea was created. In 2011, the Archive got the prasent name the State Institution of the Republic of Adygea “National Archive”.
