History

Archive was established in 1929, as the archive of Communist Party and "V.I. Lenin Party Institute" branch is Rostov on Don. From 1939 it was operating as the Communist Party archive of the Rostov Oblast.

During the Second World War, in 1941 archive documents were evacuated to Stalingrad, and in 1942 to Uralsk in Western Kazakhstan Oblast. What was a rare exception, all of the documents survived Second World War. The Archive was reestablished in Rostov on Don in 1944.

In 1988 the Archive was relocated into the new building. In 1991 the party Archive was reorganized into the Center for Documentation of Contemporary History of Rostov Oblast.

Archive is holding documents relating to the history of Communist Party and Comsomol, their central, provincial and local branches in Rostov Oblast from 1917 until 1991.

Archive is holding documents relating to the history of Communist Party and Komsomol, their central, provincial and local branches in Rostov Oblast from 1917 until 1991.

It has separate record groups relating to the political prisoners of the Taganrog region, documents on partisan movement during the II World War, records on damages and atrocities committed during the German occupation, collection of photos documenting Communist Party and Komsomol history in the region.

After 1991 Center is collecting documents on political parties, social and cultural institutions, as well as collecting private documents from the area.

Conditions of Access

Researchers are allowed into the Reading Room on the basis of their ID documents. They need to submitt letter from their home institution, stating goal and scope of their work in the archive. http://гуцдниро.рф/for_clients/rules_for_reading_room/
