Building(s)

The Noord-Hollands Archief (or North Holland Archives) institution consists of two locations, namely the location at Kleine Houtweg 18 (which contains the State archives in North Holland and the North Holland province archives) and the public center of the archives in the Jan's church at Jansstraat 40 (which contains the municipal and North Holland province archives).

Archival and Other Holdings

In the Noord-Hollands Archief you can find public records and private archives. The government archives include: the administration of the province of North Holland and provincial services, such as Provincial Public Works and the Provincial Hospital; government institutions and government departments in North Holland, such as the Land Registry, the courts and prisons in North Holland; control of the municipalities Aalsmeer, Beverwijk, Bloemendaal, Haarlem, Haarlem and Spaarnwoude, Haarlemmermeer, Heemskerk, Heemstede, Uitgeest, Uithoorn, Velsen and Zandvoort, municipal services and companies in these municipalities other local government bodies in these municipalities (such as water boards). The private archives include those of churches (including the archives of the Diocese of Haarlem), companies, associations, families and individuals (such as the Haarlem regent family Van Valkenburg) that are or were involved in North Holland. Moreover, it is fairly uncommon that the North Holland Archives also manages some sixty archives of scientific institutions and internationally renowned scientists (such as the personal archives of the physicists Hendrik Lorentz and Pieter Zeeman, who both have won the Nobel Prize).
