History

The Stadsarchief Breda was founded in 1862.In 1942 part of the municipality of Ginneken and Bavel and Princenhage were merged in Breda. Moreover, in 1997 the municipalities of New Ginneken, Prinsenbeek and Teteringen were also merged in Breda. Since June 18, 2007 the archives of the diocese of Breda are also housed in Breda.

Archival and Other Holdings

The Stadsarchief Breda manages eight kilometers of archive, 1000 meters of books and magazines, over 400,000 photographs, negatives, prints and drawings, including film, video, and audio, such as 78 rpm records.

Opening Times

The Stadsarchief Breda is open from Tuesday to Thursday from 11am to 5pm and on Saturday from 11am to 2pm.

Reproduction Services

It is allowed to take pictures of materials, provided that you do not use your flash. If the physical condition and the size of the collection permits, they may be copied. However, this must be authorized by one of staf of the reading room.
