History

The Tiroler Landesarchiv maintains a history reaching back to the eleventh century. The two former separate archival institutions, the Tiroler Landesarchiv and the Landschaftlichen Archiv, each have their own distinct history as possessors of important historical records and documents. Since 1995 the Tiroler Landesarchiv and Landschaftlichen Archiv have been united.

Archival and Other Holdings

The holdings of the Tiroler Landesarchiv include various collections, including the records of Tyrolean public service (Behörden undÄmter), which is described as the archive's focus point. These holdings are factually and chronologically structured. Descriptions of the archive holdings also indicate the presence of NSDAP-related documents within the archives (Vereinsarchive, Verbändearchive). Among others contains restitution- and/or compensation-related materials: Opferfürsorge-Akten Tirol (deceased applicants); closed files; restricition: access only granted after consultation with Tiroler Landesregierung
